Seed Support for Kitchen Garden and Awareness Training to the Farmers of Adoni Mandal on 8-8-2017
Posted On : Sep. 13, 2017

The awareness programme on organic farming was
conducted in Arekal village
organized by KDSSS under the
guidance of Fr. Bhaskar Director of
KDSSS. The program was
coordinated by Mr. C. Mohan Das,
programme officer. The resource
persons present for the programme
were Mr. Murali, Mandala
Adhyaksha, Mr. Kautalayya
Horticulture officer, Arekal village
sarpanch and KDSSS staff Sr.
Chowramma and Sr. Kalavathi.
Mr. Kautalayya enlightened the gathering with his talk on Horticulture farming and
the usefulness of organic manure. The organic manure prepared out of cow dung
and urine i.e., jeevamrutham and neem kashayam helps in not just killing the harmful
insects but also the larva of the insects which destroy the crop. The natural pesticides
help in controlling the harmful bacteria attack from the grass root level. It also helps
to improve the fertility of the soil. There are also different ways and means to cultivate
vegetables and other food grains in our own gardens and at back yard of the house.
The kitchen waste like vegetable peels, fruit peels, egg shells, drained tea powder
etc can be used as good manure after decomposing them. The government is giving

subsidy to the farmers involved in horticulture to encourage them to follow the effective
traditional method of cultivation. He urged them to make use of all the facilities and
benefit from them.
He also assured that if any farmer is willing to adapt the method of organic farming
the Horticulture officers are ready to help them with training and demonstration. The
preparation of jeevamrutham and other manure, pesticides and the usage of pest
control methods. Mr. Murali, Mandala Adhyaksha and the village sarpanch
appreciated the works done by KDSSS, for their service mindedness and for reaching
the unreached…..the poor, the neglected, the marginalized, for their growth and
development. They too affirmed that they would cooperate with KDSSS together
with all the people for the upliftment and betterment of the society.
Rev. Fr. S. Bhaskar in his talk highlighted on the problems created in the environment
due to continuous usage of chemical pesticides and insecticides in the cultivation
and their negative impact on human kind. They have affected man so much so that
they are fully depending on them for farming. In the present scenario the technology
is leading everyone to live a hap hazard life. The life span of man is decreasing day
by day due to consumption of chemical fed food. We are not just feeding our Mother
earth with chemicals but feeding ourselves with slow poison. As the chemicals do
not decompose in the soil so it is with human body. As a result, on one hand the
chemicals have led to sterility of the soil on the other hand it has caused new
sicknesses and diseases in all spheres of life. Our way of living has changed
according to the technology, though technology was to be for the betterment of man
and the environment, yet we find disaster, disharmony, disorientation and disunity
created everywhere. Tomorrow if we want to enjoy good health physically,
psychologically, socially and spiritually we need to get back to our original method of
farming and cultivation today.
The only solution to the problems created in the past is to grow a healthy and pure
vegetables and food grains. It is always preferred, ‘being late is better than never’
and so it is necessary and very important to start now, to know which method is
applicable and adaptable to which crop, which type of soil etc. It is difficult to undo
the methods but in order to save our Mother Earth and future generation from worst
situations and conditions all of us need to work together. Keeping this in mind he
explained to them about the usefulness of the small vegetable kit which contains
different kinds of vegetable seeds purely organic and healthy. He also urged them to
make use of all the services rendered by KDSSS for the growth and development of
the widows, single parent children, school drop outs, child laborers, youth and different
age groups through various skill development training programmes and income
generating activities.
Mr. Mohan Das addressed the gathering with a capturing slogan “Alone we can do a

very little but together we can achieve more”. It is unity that brings changes in the
society, family and in an individual. The environment and the natural resources like
water, soil, air is being polluted day after day due to greedy and selfish motives of
human kind. If we want to put an end to this disaster we need to adapt changes in
our cultivating methods. Our aim towards food security should be in terms of quality
and not quantity only then our health conditions will be improved. The vegetable
seeds kit which is provided to them is one of the means to enhance their health as
well as of others. With this thought provoking awareness talk the farmers were given
vegetable seeds kit by KDSSS organization. They are thankful to KDSSS for the
timely help and services.
